MISSION OF LORETO

The first mission of all California, founded in 1697 by the Jesuit Juan María de Salvatierra. Inside it contains liturgical objects, oils from the 18th century, a baroque altarpiece in gold and the original figure of Our Lady of Loreto with which they founded the mission.


MUSEUM OF JESUITARY MISSIONS.

A space to learn more about the passage of missionaries through the peninsula, where documents, utensils and tools of the time can be seen; sacred art; a collection of weapons; as well as prehispanic objects and a general panorama of the history of the place. Very interesting.


LORETO ISLANDS

Declared a Marine Park in 1996, the bay of Loreto has 75% of all marine mammals in Mexico and some 890 species of fish, 90% of which are endemic. PUERTO ESCONDIDO AND NOPOLÓ

SAN FRANCISCO JAVIER

Named "the jewel of the missions" for its stunning beauty. Built next to an oasis in the middle of the mountains, the temple is a true surprise of the desert. Its sober edification in volcanic stone contrasts with a magnificent interior in which stands out a baroque altarpiece bathed in gold. On the left side of the temple, it is possible to find a small and peculiar cemetery. Behind the mission, you can visit a large olive tree with more than 200 years and that, according to legend, was cultivated by the same Jesuits who founded the mission.


SIERRA DE LA GIGANTA

This chain of mountains of great size crosses the municipality of Loreto and gives adventurers a world of options to explore nature. Fans of hiking and camping in the most remote places will find it fascinating. The best season to visit the mountains is in February and March.
